Major Tech Firms to Sign Rate Payer Protection Pledge with Trump

Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, xAI, Oracle, and OpenAI will join President Donald TRUMP at the White House next week to sign the Rate Payer Protection Pledge. The agreement mandates that new AI data centers must be accompanied by power infrastructure provided by the companies themselves, shielding taxpayers from additional energy costs.

White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers emphasized that these firms will "build, bring, or buy their own power supply" for AI expansions, ensuring no rise in electricity bills for Americans. Trump framed the pledge as a necessary response to the aging U.S. power grid, which he described as incapable of handling surging demand from AI development.

The initiative, coordinated with Energy Secretary Chris Wright and WHITE House tech policy director Michael Kratsios, follows Trump's State of the Union announcement. "We're telling major tech companies they have the obligation to provide for their own power needs," the president declared, suggesting firms could build dedicated power plants if necessary.
